Southern Tailgater Magazine Targets Enthusiasts

Southern Tailgater Magazine (www.southerntailgater.com) designed to serve southeast region of the country – a geography with a rich tailgating tradition.

"Tailgating is a popular activity all over the country," said Chris Reaves, President and Publisher of Southern Tailgater. "But the southern tradition and unique culture of the south, we felt, demanded an outlet dedicated to this market. Our goal is to provide both a publication and web-based forum for southern tailgaters to show their pride, their heritage and their tailgating spirit." There is no doubt the South has a passion for tailgating, and the magazine is directed at those very tailgaters throughout the Southeast. The events covered could be anything involving tailgating from Football (pro and college), Nascar, and any other event with tailgaters. The magazine is published quarterly.

Southern Tailgater Magazine will cover events, products, and recipes, among other things. Starting with their first issue in September, the group has attended 28 tailgating events.

It is estimated that more than 40 million people tailgate every year. Many drive hours to events, and never venture into the stadium, preferring to party in the parking lot, eating "tailgate gourmet" and watching the event on the televisions they carry with them. In effect, tailgating has become the hobby of choice for millions of people across every age and socioeconomic demographic.

"Southern Tailgater will hit America's hardcore tailgate enthusiast. More than 40% of ATA's membership originates in the south, and primarily in the southeast," said Jeff Dockeray, Vice President of American Tailgater's Association. "Whether SEC Football, NASCAR, or the NFL, it is uniformly all about community, camaraderie, but also friendly competition. From Talladega, to Death Valley, to the World's Largest Cocktail Party, tailgating in the south is a breed apart. This culture needs a voice and Southern Tailgater is it."

Southern Tailgater Magazine is dedicated to providing news, information and products about tailgating to tailgaters and other sports enthusiasts with a distinctly southern flair. Published out of Birmingham, Alabama, the magazine will focus on the sports traditions and great rivalries of the south, while celebrating the grill, the sauce and the parking lots that characterize the tailgating heritage.

According to an independent survey commissioned by the American Tailgaters Association (ATA), more than 40 million people in the United States tailgate every year, with the south leading the way!
